I’m a little surprised he didn’t turn around and confront him, tell him to fuck off, etc. I know deescalating the situation is usually best if possible, but a simple “Can I help you?” could go a long way. I guess as a foreigner it’s difficult for him to do something like that, he could get into shit and he can’t really defend himself as easily.
